A PLACE TO LIVE AND WORK.
Always conscious of Wiltshire’s Core Strategy aim to reverse the trend of ‘out commuting’, we have developed our plans for making Chippenham and Abbeyfield a place to both live and work.
Research suggests that future jobs in Chippenham will fall into 3 main categories:
- 87.2%* of firms in Wiltshire employ less than 10 people. They require small workshops or studios which can be embedded within the new housing, like the Poundbury model, inspired by the Prince of Wales.
- Manufacturing or distribution businesses require modern industrial units on the edge of towns with good motorway access. We have been instrumental in encouraging The Range to choose Chippenham for their southern distribution warehouse bringing up to 1000 jobs to the town.
- Larger office based employers want to be in the town centre by the Railway Station. We hope to bring contemporary commercial offices around Station Square within walking or cycling distance of Chippenham Riverside via green routes.

WHERE TOWN MEETS COUNTRY
Chippenham 2020 are determined that Abbeyfield will be part of Chippenham, enhancing its centre and its infrastructure and not just an appendage to the town. The focus of the development will be the heritage buildings of the two existing farms. Some streets will open up to provide views of the countryside, whilst others will look to the river and Chippenham town centre beyond.
The River Marden corridor will be heavily landscaped providing riverside paths and dog walks set in a countryside atmosphere, public rights of way will be protected, maintained and enhanced with improved access to the River Avon.
LIFESTYLE, LEISURE AND SPORT
Abbeyfield is a short walk away from Abbeyfield School, Stanley Park Football Grounds, the Olympiad Leisure Centre, and the town centre. The River Avon corridor will be enhanced with cycle and pedestrian routes and a range of sports and recreational activities. There is scope for a cricket ground of County quality, enhanced facilities for rowing and canoeing, a running track, and tennis courts – the possibilities are endless and the space is there for the people of Chippenham to decide what they want.
We’d like a River hub near to the existing Sea Cadets and Sailing Club ideally including a range of sports, a riverside pub and restaurant.
